On Friday (13 March), NATO defences have shot down a third ballistic missile that was fired from Iran towards Türkiye, according to the Turkish Defence Ministry. The ministry is asking Tehran for clarification.
"All necessary measures are being taken decisively and without hesitation against any threat directed at our country's territory and airspace. Consultations are being conducted with the relevant country to clarify all aspects of the incident," the ministry said in a statement.
Today marks the third time since 4 March that NATO air defences have shot down ballistic missiles aimed at NATO-ally Türkiye, which boasts NATO’s second-largest army and neighbours Iran. Türkiye has not yet called on Alliance members for protection.
There was no immediate comment from Iran. Tehran has so far repeatedly rejected deliberately targeting Türkiye amid its war with the United States and Israel.
