Italian Foreign Minister visits Armenia

Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni on Tuesday arrived in Yerevan on the final stage of his short visit to the South Caucasus. Gentiloni met with Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian, and was later expected to meet with President Serzh Sargsyan.

Nalbandian and Gentiloni discussed issues related to the Karabakh conflict, the new Armenian-EU framework agreement, as well as various bilateral and international issues.

Gentiloni is the first Italian Foreign Minister to visit the region  since the three countries of the South Caucasus regained their indpedence in 1991. The visit comes as Italy is about to take on several new responsabilities within international organisations, including as member of the UN Security Council, the Chairmanship of the G7 and in 2018, the Presidency of the OSCE
