Georgia will stop gas purchases from Gazprom. Minister of Energy of Georgia, Kakha Kaladze, said that no deals will be concluded to purchase Russian gas from late 2017.
As of April 2017, Georgia will completely switch to supplying the population and enterprises with gas from Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR and the consortium for the development of the Shah Deniz gas field are the suppliers of gas to Georgia. Thus, the share of Russian gas in the total volume of imports will reduce to four percent.
Georgia annually consumes about 2.5 bcm of gas. In recent years, the share of Russian gas accounted for about 10 percent of the country's total gas supply.
In January-March 2017, the volume of purchased natural gas from Russia amounted to 100 million cubic meters.
