Algeria has begun construction on a section of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, a gas pipeline that will connect Nigeria, Niger, and Algeria and supply up to 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Europe.
The project envisions the construction of a 4,128-kilometer route from Warri in southern Nigeria through Niger to the Hassi R'Mel gas hub in Algeria. From there, gas can be supplied through the existing Algerian network to Mediterranean export terminals and pipelines serving the European market.
The new Algerian section is expected to extend approximately 1,210 kilometers from the border with Niger to the south of the country. Niger plans to begin work on its 720-kilometer section in early 2027.

The Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline also competes with another route, the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, which is planned to run along the Atlantic coast of West Africa.
