Ilham Aliev in good shape

Ilham Aliyev could not resist trying out some of the equipment when he visited Baku's new Tennis Academy yesterday.

When inspecting the academy's gym, the president took off his jacket and tried out the pull-up bar.

He did over 10 chin ups without breaking sweat, a sign that the president is in good shape.

The episode shows that Ilham Aliyev does not only back the development of sport in Azerbaijan, but works out himself, 1news.az commented.

In an interview with Mir TV in February this year, Ilham Aliyev said that he did gymnastics, athletics and swimming.

Tennis Academy

The president and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva opened the central court during their visit to the Tennis Academy.

The court has seats for 3,000 spectators.

The facility is also designed for volleyball, handball and mini-football, the president of the Tennis Federation, Milli Majlis Speaker Ogtay Asadov, told the head of state.

The president and first lady watched a performance by young sportsmen as well as inspecting the gym and swimming pool at the facility. Ilham Aliyev did not take a dip, however.

He spoke to the builders and praised the look of the court and its facilities.
