The "return" of the democracy-bound Nagorno- Karabakh to the authoritarian Azerbaijan is contrary to good sense, Director of the Oriental Studies Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Ruben Safrastyan said in an interview with ArmInfo, when asked to comment on the last presidential election in Nagorno- Karabakh.
According to Safrastyan, the election has shown that Nagorno-Karabakh is moving towards democracy, so, it cannot be part of the
authoritarian Azerbaijan.
"This is a fact for all people with Western mentality, and the election has confirmed it," Safrastyan said.
The presidential election in Nagorno-Karabakh took place July 19 2012. The winner Bako Sahakyan secured 66.70% of the votes, while his key rival Vitaly Balasanyan 32.50%. The turnout was as high as 73.43%.
