LINKS Europe presents the Annual Review 2025

LINKS Europe Foundation is proud to present its Annual Review of 2025. 2025 has seen continued international turbulence, marked by ongoing conflicts and growing concerns over the selective application of international law. However, 2025 also marked an important step towards peace in the South Caucasus, with the meeting in Washington in August between Armenia and Azerbaijan opening new possibilities for dialogue. Despite these challenges in 2025, LINKS Europe continued to make a difference in key areas.

Two highlights stand out:

  1. The completion of the Thematic Groups for a New Armenian–Azerbaijani Dialogue, bringing together over 40 experts from both societies to produce four consensus-based reports supporting the peace process.
  2. The advancement of the Landmine Free South Caucasus campaign, promoting mine action as a confidence-building measure between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, and raising awareness of one of the region’s most pressing humanitarian challenges.

We also continued to convene dialogue, strengthen partnerships with the international community, and expand our analytical and outreach work to support confidence-building and cooperation in Europe's neighbourhood.

Azerbaijan president Aliyev makes short official visit to Georgia

Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev on Monday (6 April) made an official visit to Georgia. During the visit, which lasted only for a few hours, Aliyev held meetings with the country's leadership, including the de facto political leader, Bidzina Ivanishvili, the honorary president of the ruling Georgian Dream party. Speaking at a press briefing with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. Aliyev said that the South Caucasus was becoming a center of peace, security, and cooperation. "I would also like to note the role of Georgia here. The Georgian Prime Minister noted the peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Trade is also important in this area. Today, trade between Azerbaijan and Armenia is carried out through Georgia. For this, I would like to thank Georgia"

Thursday Interview: Murad Muradov

Thursday Interview: Murad Muradov

Today, commonspace.eu starts a new regular weekly series. THURSDAY INTERVIEW, conducted by Lauri Nikulainen, will host  persons who are thinkers, opinion shapers, and implementors in their countries and spheres. We start the series with an interview with Murad Muradov, a leading person in Azerbaijan's think tank community. He is also the first co-chair of the Action Committee for a new Armenian-Azerbaijani Dialogue. Last September he made history by being the first Azerbaijani civil society activist to visit Armenia after the 44 day war, and the start of the peace process. Speaking about this visit Murad Muradov said: "My experience was largely positive. My negative expectations luckily didn’t play out. The discussions were respectful, the panel format bringing together experts from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey was particularly valuable during the NATO Rose-Roth Seminar in Yerevan, and media coverage, while varied in tone, remained largely constructive. Some media outlets though attempted to represent me as more of a government mouthpiece than an independent expert, which was totally misleading.  Overall, I see these initiatives as important steps in rebuilding trust and normalising professional engagement. The fact that soon a larger Azerbaijani civil society visits to Armenia followed, reinforces the sense that this process is moving in the right direction."
