It's difficult to imagine how Azerbaijan, being in the UN Security Council, could have repercussions for the Karabakh process: the main platform for negotiations is the OSCE Minsk Group, not the United Nations, Jana Kobzova Policy Fellow and Programme Coordinator European Council on Foreign Relations told ArmInfo.
"During the war in early 1990s, the UN security council unanimously adopted resolutions on the conflict which it has stuck to ever since- even if Azerbaijan tried to raise the issue at the UN the preference of others is to deal with the issue within the OSCE framework," the expert said.
In October Azerbaijan was elected to the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member for 2012-2013.
