Armenian FM: Armenia advocates exclusively peaceful measures to resolve conflict over Iran

Armenia advocates exclusively peaceful measures to resolve the conflict over Iran, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan said during a joint press-conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Monday.

Lavrov believes that the conflict must be resolved by peaceful means only as war would be a real disaster for both Armenia and Azerbaijan:  for the latter the inflow of refugees from Northern Iran, where there are thrice as many Azeris, would be an inevitable and very negative consequence.

Concerning the Istanbul meeting of the "friends of Syria," Lavrov said that Russia has received an invitation to that meeting but has  declined it.

"Our position is that this meeting should involve all conflicting parties rather than just the opposition. Moreover, it may wreck Kofi Annan's plan. Russia supports all the six points of the plan and is against any ultimatums. This conflict will be resolved only if both conflicting parties sit at the negotiating table," Lavrov said.
