President Aliev receives Secretary of Iranian National Security Council

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received an Iranian delegation led by Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili.

President Ilham Aliyev praised successful development of historical, cultural and religious relations between the two countries and peoples, AzerTAj reports.

The President added Azerbaijan-Iran relationship covers all directions. President Ilham Aliyev pointed out development of bilateral security cooperation was of special importance, stressing the necessity of holding regular consultations in this sphere.

President Aliev also underscored the importance of reciprocal visits at various levels in expansion of Azerbaijan-Iran relations. The President expressed confidence that Saeed Jalili`s visit to Azerbaijan would be an important step for strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Saeed Jalili, in turn, expressed satisfaction with his first visit to Azerbaijan, which he said had always been a friendly country for him. Saeed Jalili noted there were historical friendly relations between Iranian and Azerbaijani peoples. He pointed out officials of the two countries had always demonstrated high level political will in development of bilateral ties.

The Iranian official noted his country supports Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity. He added official Tehran regards that the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be settled on the basis of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

They also exchanged views on issues regarding development of Azerbaijan-Iran relations in different spheres, including security.

At that time, a political reshuffle took place with then Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili becoming party chairman, while Kobakhidze was nominated for the prime minister’s post.
