OSCE parliamentary assembly session kicks off in Tbilisi

The Georgian capital will host a session of the OSCE parliamentary assembly beginning on Friday, running until Tuesday.

Diplomats, political experts and representatives of various international organisations as well as the OSCE will be in Tbilisi. Up to 700 guests from over 50 OSCE countries are expected to participate in total, around 300 of them members of parliament.

The theme is to be “25 Years of Parliamentary Co-operation: Building Trust Through Dialogue".  At the end of the session a president will be elected and a 'Tbilisi Declaration' adopted, reflecting the various statements and positions taken up at the assembly.

Speakers will include by Georgian Speaker of Parliament David Usupashvili, Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, OSCE PA President Ilkka Kanerva, from Finland, and OSCE Chairman-in-Office Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Debated topics will include Ukraine, Georgia, Crimea, terrorism, refugees and climate change.
