Further Russian drone strike on Ukrainian port facilities

Another Russian drone strike has hit port and industrial facilities in the south of Ukraine's Odesa region on the Black Sea, starting fires, Ukrainian authorities have annnounced on Wednesday (2 August).

Regional head Oleh Kiper said that a grain silo had been damaged, but did not give any further details. He said that emergency services were working on the site and did not report any casualties.

Before the drone hit, the Ukrainian air force said that Russian drones were heading towards Izmail, a key Ukrainian port on the Danube river.

Kazakhstan-Afghanistan business forum to take place from 3-5 August
A Kazakhstan-Afghanistan business forum is set to begin in the Kazakh capital Astana tomorrow on Thursday (3 August), lasting until Saturday (5 August). According to a statement from the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, around 150 Afghan entrepreneurs from different sectors of the economy including second-level banks will be in attendance, while from the Kazakh side the Ministry of Trade and Integration, the company Kazakeksport, second-level banks, and logistics companies will also attend.

2nd EU-Saudi Arabia high-level political dialogue held in Brussels
The 2nd High-level Political Dialogue between the European Union and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was held on 31 July in Brussels, the European Union's External Action Service has announced in a press release. It was co-chaired by Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Mr. Enrique Mora and Ambassador H.E. Dr. Rayed Krimly, Head of Policy Planning at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

West African nations impose sanctions on Niger following coup, threaten military action

National leaders of West Africa's regional ECOWAS group on Sunday (30 July) imposed sanctions on the leaders of a coup that began unfolding in Niger on Wednesday (26 July). They also threatened military action against Niger if the ousted President Mohammed Bazoum is not reinstated within a week.

Protests greet Russian cruise ship as it docks in Georgia for the second time
Large protests have greeted a Russian cruise ship docking in the Georgian port city of Batumi on Monday (31 July). It is the second such protest in less than a week after the Astoria Grande docked on Thursday (27 July) despite protests, and left Georgia two days earlier than scheduled. Major demonstrations had already begun outside the port in Batumi around midnight on Monday, hours before the cruise ship, which is reported to be carrying a number famous Russian media personalities and celebrities who have expressed support for Russia's ongoing invasion, docked in Batumi.

Russia launches strikes on Ukrainian ports 200m from Romanian border
On the night of Monday (24 July), Russia launched a wave of drone strikes on Ukrainian grain silos at the Danube river ports of Izmail and Reni, located only 200m from the Ukraine's border with NATO member state Romania. The airstrikes injured six people and damaged grain storage units. Ukraine's Southern Military Command said they shot down three drones out of a total of 15 launched at the facility.

Georgian government "well-aware" of "long-term obligations and responsibilities" of EU membership, says PM
