The worsening of the Iran-Israel situation worries the governments in the South Caucasus.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held separate telephone conversation with their Iranian counterpart Abbas Aragchi.
A statement by the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry said that during the conversation between the Azerbaijani and Iranian Ministers the situation that arose as a result of the operation launched by Israel against Iranian territory was discussed. Bayramov expressed concern about the aggravation of the situation in the region. He expressed condolences to Iran in connection with the death of the Chief of the General Staff, a number of officials and citizens.
The head of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry noted that the situation around nuclear facilities is worrying and stressed the importance of resolving existing problems within the framework of the norms and principles of international law, through dialogue and diplomatic methods.
“Azerbaijan will never allow its territory to be used for attacks on third countries, including neighbouring and friendly Iran,” Bayramov added.
He also stressed that, given the closure of Iran's airspace, Azerbaijan has created conditions for representatives of various countries and Iran to cross the land border.
The parties noted the importance of resuming diplomatic efforts, taking into account the danger of the conflict spreading to a wider region.
In the meantime Iranian foreign minister Araghchi also had a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan.
"We discussed recent developments and exchanged views on the current situation. In line with Armenia's stated position, I emphasized the importance of risk management in the region and preventing escalation", Mirzoyan wrote on X.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the current situation.
"We are deeply concerned about the rising tensions in the Middle East, which threaten regional security. We emphasize the importance of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation and ensure stability," the statement said.
