Spain wants the EU to immediately suspend its association agreement with Israel

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares will ask EU ministers in Brussels to suspend the agreement with Israel with immediate effect. According to Albares, "The time for words and statements is over", and he added that "The Palestinians in Gaza have no time to lose."

He continued, "If the association agreement is based on human rights, it is only natural that we suspend it immediately and move on." Albares also called for an embargo on arms sales to Israel, as well as the expansion of the list of individuals subject to sanctions for those seeking to thwart the two-state solution.

The Spanish minister said that Europe must ‘show courage in favour of peace and international law’ and defend the values it stands for.
