EU envoy discusses Karabakh with Azerbaijani foreign minister

The European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Toivo Klaar, met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Milan on Thursday (6 December) on the margins of the 25th Ministerial meeting of the OSCE which is taking place in the Italian city.

Reports in the Azerbaijani media say that Mammadyarov briefed the EU envoy on the meeting he held the day before with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and the Foreign Minister of Armenia. Minister Elmar Mammadyarov underlined the importance of the EU's support to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

Earlier Mammadyarov in comments to the Azerbaijani media described the meeting with his Armenian counterpart and the OSCE mediators as "very useful". "It lasted for around three hours and it was a very important and useful discussions for better understanding of each other's position. There was an agreement to continue talks in this format in the upcoming future, most probably next month," Mammadyarov was quoted as saying.
