Armenians have celebrated the annual water festival Vardavar on Sunday (8 July) - an opportunity to cool down by drenching each other with water,
The festival has pagan roots, but in modern times has been associated with the feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ in Christianity. Nowadays it is an opportunity for some light hearted fun on a hot summer day.
