Novruz Mammadov appointed prime minister of Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijan Parliament on Saturday (21 April) appointment Novruz Mammadov as the next prime minister. Mammadov was proposed to the post by Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev.

Mammadov is 72 years old, he was born in 1947 in Shikhmahmud village of Babak region of Nakhchivan. 

Mammadov has been part of Azerbaijan's ruling circle for a long time. He has headed the Foreign Relations Department of the Presidential Administration since 1997 and was appointed Assistant to the President for Foreign Affairs in 2017. He was also the Deputy head of the presidential Administration.

Earlier President Ilham Aliyev thanked outgoing prime minister Artur Rasuzade for his long service. Rasuzade has served as prime minister of Azerbaijan throughout the presidency of Ilham Aliyev since 2003, and before that during the time of his father Heidar Aliyev.
