Massive bombardments in Kyiv

Early on Friday morning (10 October), at least nine people were injured in Kyiv after a massive bombardment with drones and missiles by the Russian army. Authorities are warning the population that repeated attacks may follow.

The Russians targeted the energy infrastructure of the Ukrainian capital. Most districts of Kyiv have been left without electricity and drinking water. Public transport is also partially paralysed, especially the metro. Russian drones also struck residential buildings where fires broke out, and people had to be evacuated. There were also heavy bombardments in other cities, while in Zaporizhzhia, a child was killed, and three other civilians were left wounded.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, the Russian army has returned to the tactic used in previous years, when it massively bombed energy infrastructure during the cold season. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday (9 October) that Russia is trying to “create chaos and apply psychological pressure” by striking the energy infrastructure that provides electricity and heating to households.
