David Usupashvili announced today that he was leaving the Republican Party of which he was Chairman citing disagreements with the Party on political and tactical issues. The Republican Party had very dissapointing results in the last parliamentary elections in Georgia, with less than 2% of the electorate voting for it.
Usupashvili is one of the most respected Georgian politicians, and served as Chairman of Parliament from 2012 until now. He is highly regarded by many of Georgia's western partners as a principled politician of integrity.
In a statement Usupashvili announced that he will not be accepting any state or judiciary positions, but will remain as an opposition politician and will announce more of his future plans in two or three months time.
