Medvedev and Sargsyan hold bilateral meeting in Sochi ahead of discussions on Karabakh. Medvedev speaks of "difficult challenges in our region".

Russian president Dimitri Medvedev had a bilateral meeting in Sochi this morning with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.

President Medvedev said it was a good tradition to have these winter meetings in Sochi. He looked forward to discussing bilateral issues with his Armenian counterpart ahead of the trilateral discussions on the Karabakh question.

The United States has expressed support for the Georgian people saying that it has been a partner to Georgia and the Georgian people for more than 32 years.  In a statement on Wednesday, Secretary of State Anthony J.Blinken said that the partnership has been rooted in a shared love of freedom and democracy and a desire to see Georgia in the Euro-Atlantic family.
