7 November: The Russian Armed Forces will establish a centre for training of servicemen and agents of special units for operations in the mountains around Mount Elbrus at the tourist base Terskol in Kabardino-Balkaria in 2012 according to reports in the R

The report is attributed to the Head of the department of physical training of the Russian Armed Forces, Alexander Ukrainets. Ukrainets said, "Our department of physical training prepared proposals for organization of a mountain training centre of the Armed Forces in Kabardino-Balkaria that is planned to open in 2012. Practical exercises with military units in combat operations on mountain terrain will take place there."

Ukrainets added that training of mountain instructors was taking place at the base now and both qualified alpinists and novices who receive skills of training in mountain operations take part in it.

According to the reports Russia will train up to 35,000 specialists in combat operations on mountain terrain.
