Pope Francis will lead prayers for peace in central Yerevan during historic Armenia visit

The Vatican has released details of the programme of the visit of Pope Francis to Armenia from 24-26 June.

The Pope will arrive in Armenia on Friday 24 June at 15.00. During the visit he will meet Government and religious leaders, and will also travel to Armenia's second city, Gyumri. On Saturday at 19.00 the Pope will participate in an  Ecumenical Encounter and Prayer for Peace in Yerevan's Republic Square. The Pope will leave back to Rome on Sunday evening.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry reports great interest in the visit among international media and says that over six hundred journalists have applied for accreditation to cover the visit.
