Orthodox celebrate Christmas

Armenians all over the world mark Christmas day today. At Churches in Armenia, and amongst the diaspora communities, celebrations started late on Sunday evening and into Monday.

The Georgian Orthodox Church, the Russian Orthodox Church and other Orthodox Churches in Eastern Europe and amongst migrant communities from Sydney to New York start celebrating Christmas this evening, ahead of Christmas day on 7 January.

In Georgia, which has a sizable Armenian community, President Marghvelashvili and Prime Minister Garibashvili issued special messages congratulating the Armenian community on the occasion of Christmas Day. The Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilya II, will preside over a religious service in Tbilisi's main Cathedral later this evening.
