The United Nations condemned the atrocities committed in the conflict over Tigray and accused all parties of committing humanitarian abuses. However, the report is also a subject of doubt due to the rare collaboration between the UN and the Ethiopian rights commission and the lack of alternative investigations.

Despite strong warnings from China of possible consequences, the first official delegation of European Parliament arrived in Taiwan on Wednesday (3 November). The group MPs from the special committee on foreign interference will meet high-level political leaders, including President Tsai Ing-wen and Prime Minister Su Tseng-chang, during the three-day visit in Taiwan.

More than 100 countries have reached an agreement at the United Nations climate conference in Glasgow to stop deforestation and land degradation by 2030. It is the first significant pledge during the UN climate summit that started on Sunday. Forest-rich countries such as Brazil, Russia, Canada and Indonesia also support the plan.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said in her speech at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow that the European Union will do everything in its power to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent. She therefore stressed that there must be a global price for greenhouse gas emissions. She said there must be a clear price for carbon dioxide emissions, "because nature can no longer pay it".

Libya welcomed its first batch of international tourist groups after a decade of conflict. The group traversed the Libyan desert to Ghadames, an oasis that had been off-limits due to the war. 

The presidents of the United States and Turkey met in Rome on Sunday (31 October), on the margins of the G20 summit which took place in the Italian capital over the weekend. The two countries are important allies in NATO, but differences have marred relations in recent years, particularly as Turkey has pursued a more assertive foreign policy.

The UN Security Council called on Friday (29 October), in a resolution, on all parties involved in the Western Sahara dispute to resume negotiations “without preconditions and in good faith” in search of a “just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution”. The resolution also extended the mandate for the UN Mission for the Referendum on Western Sahara (MINURSO) for another year until 31 October 2022.

With the opposition preparing to take to the streets, Saturday's vote does not appear to have provided the closure that some had wanted and hoped for, and Georgia remains a politically polorised and divided society
