The scourge of unexploded landmines in the South Caucasus continues to take its toll on civilians.
On Sunday (5 April) a young woman was injured in a mine explosion in Armenia's Ararat region
"The incident took place on April 5. She went to collect herbs with her brother and three other women with them. The woman was taken to Astghik Hospital, where she will most likely have her leg amputated" said the head of the village where the incident happened.He added that it was very difficult to remove the woman, as it was a minefield and citizens were not allowed to enter.
The 33-year-old woman has three young children.

4 April was International Day for landmine awareness. The campaign Landmine Free South Cauasus which has sought to increase awarness of the landmine problem in the region, this year had to be postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
