Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, told The Financial Times on Sunday that the much-discussed security guarantees for Ukraine after the war are taking shape. She said that European countries are working on "fairly precise plans" for a multinational force in Ukraine.
According to Von der Leyen, there is a "clear roadmap" for the deployment of European troops in Ukraine with the support of the United States. "President Trump assured us that there will be an American presence as part of the backup," she said. "That was very clear and was repeatedly confirmed." However, the White House has not yet made such commitments publicly.
According to the Financial Times, the plan would involve tens of thousands of troops under European command, with American assistance in the form of control and command systems, as well as intelligence and surveillance equipment.
