Prominent Azerbaijani peace activist, Avaz Hasanov dies aged 50

Avaz Hasanov, a prominent Azerbaijani peace activist and human rights defender died on Friday from a heart attack He was fifty years old.

Hasanov was a  member of the Supervisory Board of the Agency for State Support of Non-Governmental Organizations in Azerbaijan, and long time director of the Society for Humanitarian Research.

He was well known especially for his work on missing persons from the first Karabakh conflict, and was a well respected figure nationally and internationally.

The news of his death was reported by the news portals Haqqin.az and Turan.az, citing human rights defender Gunel Safarova.
