The EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Federica Morgherini held separate meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York earlier this week.
Apart from discussion bilateral issues between the EU and the two respective countries, Morgherini also touched on issues related to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Morgherini reiterated the full support of the EU for the current discussions being held within the framework of the OSCE Minsk process.
Commonspace.eu political editor said in a comment that "the European Union is at a point of defining its bilateral relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan and discussions are ongoing about new agreements to be signed with the two countries in the future. On Karabakh the European Union is not directly involved in the negotiations but High Representative Federica Morgherini has in recent months had several bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, during which the issue has been discussed. This high level political dialogue is a sign of the EU's committment to support the sides in helping resolve the conflict in a peaceful way"
