European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Mahmud Mammad-Quliyev Firday, APA reports.
Among other issues Commissioner Fule discussed the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, one of the most difficult protracted conflicts in Europe. "The EU's position is to fully support the OSCE Minsk Group's efforts to work further with both sides for a clear acceptance of the Madrid principles, as a basis for peace," he said. Commissioner Fule also welcomed the newly appointed Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the EU and underlined that he looked forward to working with him.
To recall, the OSCE MG Co-Chairs, Ambassadors Robert Bradtke of the United States, Igor Popov of the Russian Federation, and Jacques Faure of France, have against visited the Karabakh conflict zone. They have already met with NKR President Bako Sahakyan, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbnadian. Today, on November 24 the mediators will leave Armenia for Baku to meet with the president and foreign minister of Azerbaijan.
