US Treasury imposes sanctions on Russian-backed individuals responsible for destabilisation activities in Ukraine

On Thursday (20 January), the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States placed four Ukrainians, including two parliamentarians, on the US sanctions list. Their assets in the US are blocked. This is the latest action the OFAC has taken to target purveyors of Russian disinformation, including designations in April 2021.

Widespread condemnation after government websites in Ukraine are shut down by 'massive' cyber hack
NATO and the European Union led strong condemnation after Government websites of various Ukrainian ministries were hacked on Thursday evening (13 January). The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this on Friday. According to Ukraine's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Oleg Nikolenko, it is too soon to draw conclusions about who could have been behind the attacks. However it is widely suspected that Russia was behind the attacks.

Lukashenko in BBC interview: "They’re not coming to my country, they’re going to yours"

In an exclusive interview with the British broadcaster BBC, the president of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, said that it is "absolutely possible" that his forces helped migrants and asylum seekers to cross the border into Poland. Russia labels research collective Bellingcat as "foreign agent"

The Russian Ministry of Justice on Friday (8 October) designated the international research collective Bellingcat as a "foreign agent". In addition, two companies and nine journalists, one of whom works for BBC Russia, have also been labelled as such. 

The decision means that the organisations are under strict surveillance by the Russian authorities. They have to state in their communications that they have this label and are subject to strict financial supervision.

Russian newspaper says the new Iran-China agreement also covers sensitive fields such as defense and intelligence
China and Iran have signed a deal on comprehensive co-operation for the next 25 years. The details of the agreement have not been revealed but the Russian newspaper Izvestya says it is known that it will cover not only such areas as economy and culture, but also sensitive fields such as defense and intelligence.
