The 16th Session of the EU-Azerbaijan Council was held in Brussels on Thursday (4 April). Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov told journalists after, that 95 % of the text of a new agreement had already been agreed, and asked for flexibility on the part of the EU so that the agreement can be initialled shortly

On 2-3 April 2016 large scale fighting erupted between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces across the whole line of contact in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. The cease fire was restored, but only after hundreds were killed and injured.
