A meeting of the representatives of Azerbaijani and Armenian Diaspora organizations has started at President hotel, Moscow.
According to APA, the meeting has been organized on the initiative of "Azerros" Federal National Cultural Autonomy and Union of Azerbaijani Organizations in Russia with an aim to discuss the increasing role of Azerbaijani and Armenian communities, Diaspora organizations in Russia in establishing peace among nations, draft national policy strategy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the role of the national mass media in the consolidation of the multinational Russian society.
The Azerbaijani Diaspora is represented by Chairman of "Azerros" Federal National Cultural Autonomy Soyun Sadigov, editor-in-chief of the "Azerbaijan Konqresi" newspaper Rustam Arifjanov, editor-in-chief of the "Tribuna" newspaper Rafael Huseynov, chairman of the Commission on National Mass Media under the Moscow Authorities Jamil Sadigbeyov, deputy director of Moscow branch of the International Bank of Azerbaijan Azer Safarov; the Armenian Diaspora was represented by President of Armenian Union in Russia, World Armenian Congress Ara Abrahamyan, USSR people's artist Armen Jigarkhanyan, vice-president of Armenian Union in Russia Vyacheslav Gavustyan, editor-in-chief of the "Armenia i mir" magazine Lusik Ghukasyan, former Armenian Ambassador to Russia Armen Smbatyan, Armenian Ambassador's assistant.
According to Turan, Ara Abrahamyan said that the Armenians and the Azerbaijanis living in Russia have common interests and that the two neighboring nations must have no contradictions.
"Our future depends on our present national policy. If we in Russia live in accord, we will be able to help our historical homelands – Armenia and Azerbaijan," Abrahamyan said, calling the meeting "historic."
"Such meetings must be held regularly. We must show that Russia is our homeland. If this becomes a signal for our brothers and sisters in Armenia and Azerbaijan, it will be better for all. Sooner or later any conflict ends at a negotiating table," Abrahamyan said.
Soyun Sadigov stressed the need to restore confidence between the two nations. He said that the Armenians and the Azerbaijanis living in Russia must learn to respect each other and not to yield to provocations. Sadigov believes that conflicts are a temporary thing. "There will be time when the conflicts will be resolved and Azerbaijanis and Armenians will again visit each other," he said.
Abrahamyan and Sadigov are planning to organize a dialogue of civilization in Sochi in Nov. "During that meeting the Azerbaijanis will have to support the Armenians and vice versa," Abrahamyan said.
