Maintenance of the status quo in the Karabakh peace process is inevitable, Director of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan told journalists.
"Today both Yerevan and Baku, and even the co-chair countries perfectly realize this. Consequently, it is not serious to suppose that the crisis in Europe, the elections in Armenia, France, Russia and the U.S. may influence the course of the conflict settlement. As regards Azerbaijan, the elections there lost their relevance long ago", he said.
To remind, the OSCE Minsk Group represented by co-chairs from Russia, the U.S. and France have been engaged in the Karabakh peace process since 1992.
When commenting on the OSCE Minsk Group activities, Iskandaryan said that the Minsk Group copes with its mission, which is not at all to resolve the Karabakh problem. Only Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh are able to gain the conflict resolution. As regards the Minsk Group, its mission is to maintain the format of negotiations, though the absence of Karabakh from the negotiation table looks negative, even despite the fact that Yerevan informs Stepanakert of the process.
