After its construction in 1976 the Sarsang Reservoir became an important source for water supply for both Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as neighbouring Azerbaijani districts. Since 1992 however there have been concerns regarding the maintenance of the reservoir and the flow of water to those that depend on it.
