Metropolitan Hilarion the chairman of the Department of External Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church has said that the Church does not want the Karabakh conflict to turn into a conflict between Christianity and Islam. He noted that for many years the Russian Orthodox Church acted as a mediator in talks between the head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Caucasus and the head of the Armenian Church, Russia 24 reported.
According to him, trilateral talks continued throughout this conflict as it was important not to let this conflict develop into an inter-religious conflict.
"This is a conflict that arose on political issues at its core is a territorial dispute, and this conflict cannot be allowed to develop into a confrontation between Christianity and Islam. The Russian Orthodox Church is now ready to participate in this peaceful mission and contribute to the peaceful settlement of this conflict," he said.
