OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier has commented on the Khankandi airport in his interview to BBC Azerbaijan

He said that contacts were held with the both sides on many issues and the causes for opening the airport were understood, Gun.Az reports.

The OSCE secretary general noted that there is a problem of communications in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, and the population wants to travel better.

"But I agree that the opening of airport is a sensible issue. This issue can cause instability, incidents and undoubtedly will not improve the environment. I fully agree and support the Minsk Group co-chairs in this issue. Outlet from the situation passes through involvement of the sides to the solution. "

Lamberto Zannier said that the situation around the Nagorno-Karabakh issue has recently been intensified.

"I think the situation needs to be improved in the political level. I am doing my utmost to support the efforts of the co-chairs. In addition to this, I keep in touch with the sides."
