The European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Toivo Klaar, on Friday (3 July) met in Tbilisi with Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani.
A statement posted on the website of the Georgian Ministry said that the sides discussed the difficult security and humanitarian situation in the Abkhazian and Tskhinvali regions as a result of Russia's occupation and of the Koronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. "Special emphasis was placed on the need for effective and active involvement of the European Union in resolving the Russia-Georgia conflict and ensuring peace and security on the ground."
The EU Special Representative reaffirmed the EU's support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the statement said.
Also present for the meeting was Georgia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Lasha Darsalia.
