Armenian media said that foreign minister Mnatsakaryan in his conversation with the European envoy urged international partners to restrain from any actions that could contribute to instability and the arms race in the region.
Elmar Mammadyarov briefed the EU envoy on the meeting he held the day before with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and the Foreign Minister of Armenia. The minister underlined the importance of the EU's support to the settlement of the conflict.
The co-Chair countries (France,, Russia and the United States) "expressed hope that an intensive results-oriented high-level dialogue between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia to promote a just and lasting settlement of the conflict can resume in the near future."
The aircraft was reported to have been on a regular training mission when it crashed in the mountains in northeastern Armenia. The two pilots were named as Lieutenant Colonel Armen Babayan and Major Movses Manukyan.
Armenian prime minister Nikol Pashinyan has highlighted the importance of Armenian-Iranian relations during a speech in the town of Kapan, the regional capital of Armenia's Syunik Province which borders Iran. Pashinyan was addressing a rally of his "My step" party, ahead of important parliamentary elections on 9 December.
