Greta Thunberg has joined an aid ship sailing to Gaza in an attempt to break the Israeli blockade

The prominent Swedish climate activist, who is sailing with 11 other activists on an aid ship bound for Gaza, said that she felt she had no choice but to help, as “our governments are failing us”.

We promised ourselves and the Palestinian people that we would do everything we can,” she told Middle East Eye in an interview broadcast live from the Mediterranean Sea.

'When our governments are failing us, it falls to us to step up and be the adults in the room.'

Despite fears that the Madleen ship, launched by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), might be attacked, Thunberg said that “spirits are high”. Another Gaza aid ship organised by the FFC was attacked with drones last month.

Borrell tells the European Parliament that the situation in Afghanistan was critical, but the EU will remain engaged
