The Foreign Ministers of the six Eastern Partnership countries are meeting in Yerevan ahead this week ahead of the summit in Vilnius in November. The EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, Stefan Fule is also attentding.
Speaking to the Armenian News Agency Mediamax Fule denied that the EU had prior knowledge of the surprise announcement of Armenia to join the Customs Union and said that the EU was only informed on 31 August. Fule also made it clear that it is not possible for Armenia to sign an Association Agreement without the DCFTA agreement. He said
"It has been the EU's consistent position that the political association and economic integration must go hand in hand and that they are integral parts of the Association Agreement. We cannot therefore decouple those two essential building blocks of the Agreement."
The meeting in Yerevan is expected to end Friday. Amongst those attending the meeting is the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Mahmud Mamed Guliev.
