A senior member of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Eldar Ibrahimov, has dismissed demands by the authorities of the self declared Nagrono Karabakh Republic to participate directly in the current negotiations being held in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Process. Ibrahimov who is also a member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly stated that "The separatist regime cannot be a part in the peace talks. But Armenia demonstrates an unconstructive position and seeks to achieve it and, naturally, the Azerbaijani side will never agree to this."
Ibrahimov, who is Chairman of the Parliament's Agrarian Policy Committee said that "As an integral part of Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh can never act as a party. Therefore, now all international efforts should be directed to prevent Armenia from continuing its aggressive policy and make it show a constructive position. In other works, more effective pressure should be exerted on Armenia for the just settlement of the conflict."
The statement came ahead of another round of consultations due to take place next week when diplomats from France, Russia and the US who co-chair the OSCE Minsk Process visit the region for discussions with Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders and officials.
