Both sides in the Karabakh conflict reported cease fire violations overnight from Wednesday to Thursday 6/7 April. The military authorities of the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh Republic said that one of their soldiers was killed in the incident. The two sides had earlier agreed to a cessation of hostilities after mediation efforts by Russia.

The Russian Foreign Minister told the Azerbaijani leader that "it is important to have the confidence to take action as soon as possible and to create the necessary prerequisites for the resumption of the political process."

Diplomats representing France, Russia and the United States, the three co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Process on Wednesday met President Ilham Aliev of Azerbaijan in Baku. Senior Russian leaders are also reported to be on their way to the region. Reports from the front line suggest that some minor violations of the cease fire are taking place but that on the whole the agreement to halt hostilities brokered by Russia is holding.

The diplomatic offensive of the last days has been three pronged, even if ostensibly complimentary. Now the Russians have a plan.
