Houthi rebels claim shooting down US MQ-9 Reaper drone

The Houthis of Yemen have claimed responsibility for the downing of a US MQ-9 Reaper drone over al-Bayda province in southern Yemen.

This information was conveyed by Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson for Houthis, which controls Yemen’s capital and most populous areas of the Arabian Peninsula state, in a televised statement on Tuesday (21 May). Saree stated that the drone was targeted with a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile and that videos would be released to substantiate this claim.

On Friday (17 May), the Houthis announced that they had shot down another U.S. MQ9 drone over the southeastern province of Maareb.
