Azerbaijan's water shortage escalates rapidly

Fariz Ismailzade, Vice Rector of ADA University, says that both Azerbaijan and the international community are facing growing challenges related to water resources. Ismailzade argues that university research into the diversification and sustainable use of water resources is crucial to addressing water scarcity.

The vice-chancellor also highlighted that COP29 will unveil plans to create a Union of Azerbaijani Universities, which will aim to increase collaboration on research to address climate change challenges such as water scarcity and resource sharing.

According to Ismailzade, the COP process has mainly involved states, but in recent years there have been crucial contributions from non-state actors, such as non-governmental organisations, research centres and universities, which have enabled further cooperation in tackling climate change.
