The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Jeyhun Bayramov have returned to Moscow where they are expected to have consultations with Sergei Lavrov the Russian foreign minister.
Lavrov on 10 October announced that he had brokered a cease fire between Armenia and Azerbaijan after the meeting the two ministers for ten hours. However, the Ministers had hardly arrived back home before the cease fire was broken, and a second attemt a few days later also failed.
This time round Lavrov may need to try some different tactics before he can be sure that any decision agreed will be implemented.
In the meantime both sides in the conflict continue to report fighting, especially in the southern sector of the Karabakh conflict zone, close to the border with Iran.
