Expert: Azerbaijan's military budget growth connected with money laundering in defense sector

The growth of the military budget of Azerbaijan is connected with large- scale money laundering in the defense sector of that country, Sargis Asatryan, an expert on Azerbaijan, told media in Yerevan, Thursday.

"Most of the military budget is misappropriated by certain officials. Everything is organized on the basis of a known scheme: old and inexpensive military hardware is acquired and registered as new and extra- modern," the expert said.

Asatryan is sure that such corrupt system in the defense sector in Azerbaijan is in favor of Armenia.

To recall, the defense budget of Azerbaijan is nearly $3 billion.
