5 October: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will seek the creation of an "Eurasian Union" of former Soviet countries as part of his foreign policy agenda if he is re-elected president next year. (Izvestia)

In an interview with Izvestya, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin praised the achievements of Economic Union between Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus and said that it could bring in other former Soviet  countries and develop on the lines of the European Union.
