Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said on Friday (20 March) that Russia will not take part in peace talks scheduled for 21 March between Ukraine and the United States.
The Kremlin had previously announced a temporary pause to the trilateral negotiation format, on 19 March, which may end once schedules are aligned. Today, Peskov spoke:
"No, these will be bilateral contacts between Ukrainians and Americans," Peskov told Interfax reporters, answering a question about whether Russia plans to participate in the upcoming negotiations between the US and Ukraine.
"This pause (in negotiations on Ukraine – IF) is temporary. We hope it's temporary. I'm referring to the continuation of the trilateral format. We hope that we'll be able to resume these negotiations in the near future.”
The meetings have yet to produce progress on key issues, with major disagreements persisting over territorial issues and security arrangements.
