20 июля: Азербайджанский чиновник заявил, что безвизовый режим, предложенный Турцией в 2009 году стал жертвой давления Ирана на Азербайджан, что и стало поводом отмены договорённостей между сторонами в последнюю минуту. (Today's Zaman).

Али Гасанов, заведующий отделом по общественно-политическим вопросам Администрации Президента Азербайджана заявил в понедельник в Баку, что Иран угрожал заблокировать коридор между Азербайджаном и Нахчываном в случае отмены виз с Турцией, без аналогичного шага в отношении Ирана.

"Мы не видим проблем в отмене визового режима с Турцией" - сказал Гасанов, добавляя, что "Иран строго протестовал против этого. Они (Иран) предупредили, что в противном случае заблокируют коридор между Азербайджаном и Нахчываном."
