Армянские источники заявляют, что солдаты были убиты снайперским огнем со стороны Азербайджана. Этот район был ареной аналогичного инцидента в начале этой недели, в результате которого погиб азербайджанский солдат. Имена погибших 26-летний Андраник Егоян и 22-летний Борис Гаспарян. Несмотря на режим прекращения огня, который в силе более 20 лет, ежедневно происходят инциденты в результате чего увеличивается число погибших с обеих сторон.
